Four years after her debut album "Strangers / Lovers", Dagny is back with a full-length album – this time as 1 of 3 conceptual mini-albums. In the album "ELLE" she dives into and nurtures the hopeful romantic side of herself – a character who daydreams about romantic comedies and longs for her dream prince to appear out of nowhere. When Sølvrev, led by director Sigurd Fossen and creative producer Christer Dyngeland, was contacted to create a visual film universe for the project through the music video for the song "Hate Being Alone", that was precisely what they wanted to capture.
Solution:
The video is heavily inspired by classic romantic films and is packed with rom-com references – something that was both a joy and a challenge during the planning phase. It is not every day that you are asked to create a "doll's house-style" film set that also needs to contain a full-scale knight, drawing on a reference library of dozens of different films and bringing it all together in one cohesive universe that should feel like the artist's own world. But when you succeed, the result is a rich universe that fans can dive into and be captivated by.
Being able to draw from such a rich and diverse reference library was also enormously fun, and some of that playfulness hopefully shines through in the finished film. You will find everything from small subtle hints that we are confident the core fans will spot, to the big obvious references that everyone will recognise. It was nevertheless important to the team that viewers do not experience Dagny as an actress imitating a film scene, but that they genuinely believe in her character and her motivation for recreating these settings.
