Europris | The Musical - Personalized video
Europris had already scored a hit with a birthday film in musical format — but with so many members having received that first film already, the time had come for a follow-up. This new film needed to be even more engaging and entertaining, building on the emotional core of the original while further strengthening both the sense of community and the brand itself.
The brief:
"Once we started developing the concept, it was clear we wanted to push even further into the musical genre our audience grew up watching, whether on screen or on stage. So we decided to write an original song and score for the film, and bring a professional musical choreographer onto the team to help build out the bigger, more theatrical scenes," says producer Christer Dyngeland. "We also knew our lead actress, Christine, had a musical theater background, which gave us a natural foundation to build on. I really feel we pulled that off in this film."
The solution:
"We drew inspiration from that childhood feeling of waking up on your birthday, bursting with excitement — and built a story around an Europris employee jumping out of bed, thrilled that it's the viewer's birthday. Unlike the previous two films we made for Europris, this time we moved the setting out of the store and into an employee's home, for something more personal, warm and intimate. We follow her from the moment she wakes up to the moment she walks out the door, ready for work — and along the way, we see and hear how she's prepared for the big day with a gift in hand for the viewer to pick up in the store," says concept developer Mariann Lunde.
With accomplished musical theater actors in the lead roles and a choreographer whose credits include Moulin Rouge and Maskorama (Norway's Masked Singer), the team transformed a house in Drammen into a world of musical magic for a single day of filming.
It was a shoot full of great moments — proof that when the ingredients are right, the result follows. The old rule of thumb is never work with animals or children, but for us they're always a welcome wildcard, as long as the production is built around them. That proved true here as well: the children on set were a joy to work with, picking up the choreography fast and taking direction beautifully. Our youngest cast member, Christoffer, brought plenty of unscripted, improvised moments and exactly the right dose of childlike chaos — the perfect finishing touch," says director Sigurd Fossen.
